Hello Romy,Thanks for the great explanation, I'm a newcomer to horns, so please treat me gently ;-)Very interesting info, so in essence there are two limits, the real "hard" limit, where you risk damage to the driver, and the "sensible" limit, below ...
|
Romy,If making a Tractrix Horn to cover between 100Hz & 1000Hz do you have to choose an Fc or mouth size that equates to 50 Hz? I've often read, and don't know if its true, that tractrix horns actually need to have their Fc an octave lower t...

I made today some interesting experiment and for the first time during my “fundamentals channel saga” I get some stimulating and very result. I find a way to mount the “low frequencied S2 driver” on the speaker’s axe way above the Macondo’s tweeter. ...
|
Well, I screw-in today the S2 with filed-coil into my horn. I decided to drive it with 2.4A. I used a regulated DC PS and did not employ my prepared for this tusk 4.2 Farad capacitor: the voltage is too high for my cap. The current gave me a ni...

6) Ok, the first half elephant in the room – the dynamics. Believe me or not but PP3000 is more dynamic then PP2000. It was very sensible from the very first note that I heard from the PP3000. I do not know what to say ...

Romy, I'll limit my answer to only speaker-related problems. 1) Still too bright sound. Not hard or edgy, just too much top end. My local guy suggested trying a single resistor in series, rather than an L-pad, to tone down the tweet...

So, with this horn I got the sound I was dreaming for!Currently system consists of 4 channels:1. RAAL Lazy Ribbon (14k+)2. JBL 2453 in 550Hz LeCleach (1200 - 14k)3. JBL 2490 in first part of own JBL horn (300-1200)4. 12" Supravox in 42Hz 2m long horn...

Dear All,Thank you all for your assistance, especially Romy, whose information has been particularly interesting. I have been in contact with Jeffrey Jackson, with whom I have discussed my driver preferences, and arrived at what is essentially only a...

Guest napping now from 16 hrs jet lag, so I have a moment...Jorge, you raise an interesting point about THs. I may be incorrect in assuming THs sound worse as they play higher in freq. Perhaps instead the limitation is one of narrow bandwidth rathe...
This configuration should give somewhere around 109dB @ 20Hz from 15w in room with cone movement of about +-3.5mm. That is still low excursion, and they are excellent drivers.
Well, in this case, I also have to try th...

One more tip. The “least dynamic compression positioning” mostly managed by upper bass and bass channels while in the “imaging positioning” the MF and HF channels play more dominating roles. Therefore, if you use a typica...

Merry Christmas!Nice woodworking job on your speakers.I have a couple if questions:Why did you select the drivers that you did? What made you select one horn for the midrange but for nothing else? What process did you use to select the crossover points...
|
I was suspecting that, when I get a "punchful" sound, the stage gets more compressed and flat. Widening the stage yields a compressed sound, specially in the low midrange-upper bass. I'll try, but I guess these speakers won't ever be at the DPoLS, al...
|
I’m probably suggesting the obvious, but have you tried adjusting the crossover component values on the fundamentals and MF-channels? On the fundamentals-channel, increasing the inductor-value, and decreasing the cap, so that...

Haralanov, it had to say, I think it would be all depends how he use that MF driver. Do not forget that this MF driver, I still insist to call it Lowther has very extended HF. That is different type of HF that is coming from “cigarette filter paper”....
|
I have re-read your post and your tone sugests that field coil drivers wi be used by manufacturers purely for their marketing appeal and not for any sonic improvement, Thomas Woschnick has just taken delivery of a pair of Cessaro Beta's which u...

A little update on the Milq amp. After sorting some of the problems with the amps transformers (see posts above ) .I now have two mono blocks operational that have about 700 hours ,I'm so glad hour meters were installed .Filament voltage is spot on 6...

Once again, let make it the last post off the subject of the 5-chals Milq.
I think it make sence to start from 370Hz-400Hz horns for S2, targeting it for 1000Hz. Then the lower bass horn, for instance the 45Hz, however it should have a chamber of m...

hello kids, a few weeks ago i started my hunt for a pair of speakers....i've been attached to my big system with a pair of headphones for the past year and feel its time to get some speakers to listen to music with (plus, i think my ears are now...
It is funny since they are identical digitally recorded tracks you would think they are the same. I would very much be interested to know if the binary code is identical or not for the two tracks.
Drdna,Do not even s...

First of all, thanks for additional detail. As mentioned I can speak only for my Fidelity Research XF-1 (30dB). Loading it on secondary as you mentioned, it ALSO damps the trannie - result in my case: less resolution. Primary loading is MUCH more sen...

...if you want to use it "pure" as it were, without any in-between equalising. Or you could tailor the amp accordingly. I would see a lowther working well mid-high rather than mid-bass.My experience is limited, however, to EX-4 used with wizzer in a ...

Well, yes... I've not been to prison in over two years! Apart from keeping me off the streets at night, the results when listening to one of the 40Hz horns were, dare I say, encouraging, though I do hesitate to say so, as the "evaluation" was carried...

The company address is the same as that for Precision Devices....http://www.precision-devices.com/...whose 10 incher (http://www.precision-devices.com/showdetails.asp?id=71) may have to do for those of us trying to build a upper bass horn without a S...

So, you use DCX 2496 for deals but not for crossovering and your crossovers are still on analog domain, right? Romy, I do everything in the digital domain so I use DCX 2496 as my crossover as well (but analog SS pro amps). I know you're no big fan of...

Fi-analy started listening the FR combo! The setup is somewhat haphazard:* P2S unknown - trying to get 231.5mm recommended by the Germans, took the pains and the cost to design and make a special collar but missing a laser engraved protractor to see ...

Wow, it is worth to live in Boston and have a day of miserable rain.
I really like what I was getting with CD and I have a few very interesting results coming that should be even more exiting, at least one of them is more defiantly is very exciting ...

This has been one hell of a ride! The new caps had gotten so bad yesterday and this morning that I was almost convinced (again...) that my cartridge was finally, really shot this time; what else could it be? The upper mids and lower treble had suck...
